In this article you’ll find out exactly what Propecia shedding is. You’ll learn the reason why it happens in the first place, how much you should expect, and for how long.
After that you’ll learn if there are any ways to stop it happening and any alternatives that you may decide are even better than Propecia and have no side-effects.
Also, why not try the quiz at athe bottom of this page to see if your type of hairfall is naturally reversible?
What is Propecia shedding?
Propecia shedding happens when you start taking Propecia for the first time on a regular basis. Propecia works by inhibiting the enzyme, 5-alpha-reducatse that converts testosterone into DHT (which is primarily responsible for hair loss in men).
The (new) lack of DHT in the body helps prevent hair loss, though the process of hair follicle miniaturisation, but initially, hair follicles that are in a ‘resting’ or ‘dormant’ phase will begin to fall out (at a faster rate than usual.)
This is generally to be expected. These dormant hair follicles that grow very slowly (or not at all) are gradually replaced by stronger and thicker hairs.
This is why many men on Propecia don’t actually experience much new hair growth, but instead they have thicker and stronger hair where it still exists.
This new, (active) hair should remain there for as long as you take Propecia, but when you stop taking it then it may return to an ‘dormant’ phase (through miniaturisation) and eventually fall out.
There are, however, natural ways to cure hair loss without using Propecia (which is what this website is all about.)
Typically, shedding takes place for less than three months, and can start after a week or so. If it lasts longer than three months or is severe to start with then consult your doctor. (I am not a doctor btw.)
How can I stop the shedding?
There is nothing specific that you can do to stop Propecia shedding directly. Anyway, you wouldn’t particularly want to since the shedding is often a sign that the drug is taking effect and replacing dormant hairs with active hairs, (which is good.)
However, there is plenty that you can do to help the new, strong hair grow as quickly as possible. You need to give it every thing it needs to grow, such as the nutrients, minerals and enzymes that are required for hair production.
Whilst, at the same time, minimising hair-destroyong chemicals, hormones and other substances that are found in the blood.
There is also the very effective technique that I call ‘The Scalp Solution’ which will help you remove the DHT covering the scalp whilst initiating new hair growth (topically.)
This is quite and effective double-pronged approach that does work well, although it is not meant to be used specifically for Propecia shedding.
I don’t personally recommend the use of Propecia. This is because of the side effects that come along with it, and more importantly, natural techniques for preventing hair loss can be just as effective.
I took Propecia for over a year and when I came off it, I noticed an immediate increase in my sex-drive, hardness of erection and more. However many men do just fine on it.
You can read more about how to beat hair loss naturally on this website, but this will serve as a quick summary to get you started. Firstly, stop drinking tap water.
Most tap water contains fluoride and heavy metals which disrupt the endocrine system and hormonal balance. Fluoride in tap water has been correlated with hair loss.

Secondly, reduce the glycemic index of the foods you eat. This means no more white breads, pasta or cereals. Eat foods that release their energy slowly into your blood.
This prevents blood sugar spikes. As Dr. Mercola, one of the most renowned natural health practitioners in the world says, “early stage male pattern baldness is believed to be a clinical marker on insulin resistance.”
Thirdly, alkalize your body as much as possible. All foods have a ‘metabolic waste.’ This is what is left over after we’ve used the energy and nutrients from our food.
Some foods leave a metabolic waste that is acidic in nature, and some leave a waste that is alkaline. Unfortunately, our modern diets (grains, meats and dairy) are heavily weighted on the acidic side, causing an overall net acidic change.
Vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds are generally alkaline (the healthy stuff surprisingly.)
Our body then uses the keratin in the hair follicles to buffer this over acidity, since the body wants to stay at a natural balance between acid and alkaline. You can get hold of my in-depth hair loss course if you want to know the details.
